To pave the way for my articles on the four historic neighborhoods in Florence, let’s do a canter through the expansion of the city in the Middle Ages, and its division into four quartieri.
I stayed on the "Little Island" last spring for two months. I felt like I was living in New Jersey (No offense to your NJ fans...). My thinking had been, let's try living where many of the real Florentines who work in the city live. Naturally the Air BnB made the place appear far more attractive than it really was. In a couple of months I'm doing a complete 180 and staying in the heart of the city. But San Frediano is my favorite by far. Perfect for a middle-aged guy like me who writes all day.
Thanks for the explanation Chandi. It will help got my next visit to Florence!
Ciao Richard, when do you plan to come back?
Waiting for David Fideler to start the next Renaissance convocation. I will be in Lake Como and Milan in April however
I guess he's thinking about it for next fall. I hope he chooses me again and his co-leader. Put in a plug for me!😉
I already have!
🥰 Grazie!
This will be super useful when we are in Florence soon. Thank you!
Prego! 😃
I’m in Florence now and am enjoying all four quarters! What a beautiful city you live in.
It is veramente bella, isn't it? How long are you here for? If you're interested in a tour, let me know😉
I’m here for three more days. I’m not used to taking tours, but I’ll browse your offerings for sure.

The area where I live, at the edge of San Frediano, isn't even on the map in the time period I talk about in this post. It was countryside. 😉
So long as it's not a double-wide Chandi LOL
😅 Ha! Never seen one of those in Florence!
