If you’ve already visited Lucca’s center, and biked on the walls (a must-do activity) and if you’d like to bike somewhere flat and easy outside walls and leave the tourists behind, then read on for my suggestions.
Thanks for this. Lucca is at the top of the list for my next visit to Italy. I hope to stay long enough to explore a bit of the surrounding area. I'm not normally a cyclist...but why not try it?
Maybe to get used to it, do it first on the walls around town within the walls. If you are comfortable, go out the trail that I mention here. Have fun!
Really enjoyed this post and looking forward to the next one. As part-time residents of centro storico in Lucca, we often look for experiences that take us outside the walls.
Great post Chandi, especially with the detailed maps. It's always a wonderful idea to get away for a bit, seeing the countryside outside of the historic city centers. I haven't checked but I am sure that ebikes are available for rent for those who want to take the challenge of going uphill.
Good thought about the ebikes. Those have become more popular, but I haven't gotten on that band wagon as I have my bike-- have had the same one for almost 8 years and it hasn't been stolen even though I have to keep it in the piazza. I use two hefty locks 😉. So, that is why I don't tend to think of ebikes because I just use the bike I have.

Ciao Lou, I'm glad to hear this is an excursion you'd like to do! 😃
