My wife, Jeanne, and I are off to Italy in September/October for our 19th visit. b is our last choice because although we’ve toyed with the idea of buying a place in Italy, it’s such an expensive country with such a wide range of options that we wouldn’t want to ourself down to one place. Plus, we have friends who live there and the nitty-gritty sounds really daunting. Plus we live in San Diego, which is almost heaven.
My wife is a travel writer – traveltawk.com or on Instagram @Traveltawk. Yes, she is originally from New York. She’s contemplating a move over to Substack because Wordpress just isn’t working out. Actually, I think she’s in the process of doing it.
We just spent seven weeks in southern Italy, Sicily, and Greece/Pelopponese. And all the trips to Italy we’ve never been to the Amalfi coast so we went this time – four days in Amalfi and two days in Sorrento. It’s one and done and I don’t see going back there at all. We found a place some of our friends stayed in Santa Maria Castellabate, two hours south of Naples, one hour south of the Amalfi coast. Palazzo Belmonte was fabulous!!! lots of things to do in the area, Greek and Roman ruins, beautiful coast and inland mountains, food and Wine were dynamite. Thanks! Doug Decker DDS.
Ciao Douglas, I agree that San Diego is almost Heaven! Probably more so than West Virginia 😉 I think the song could use some tweaking 😆
I will check out your wife's instagram. Let me know if she ends up on Substack!
Wow, you just spent 7 weeks in Italy and Greece and you're returning in September! How wonderful!
Yes, I like Santa Maria Castellabate as an alternative to the Amalfi Coast. I will probably write a post about alternatives like that, to the super over-crowded places.
Thanks for letting me know your order of preferences on my poll!
I love your deep knowledge of Renaissance history and in particular the history of Florence. I enjoy reading everything you write on that subject, along with the back stories on the art pieces you highlight. Buona fortuna e grazie.
I would have ticked all the boxes but then saw only one was possible.
But then saw the option to talk about the others in the comments box, so, I would like to add (b) moving to Italy which interests me greatly. Also (c) I cannot visit Florence without visiting the dynamic central food market and have yet to go to other open air food markets in the city. Also (d) being very interested to explore off the beaten track places of interest. Best wishes for your new venture. Suzy
Ciao Suzy, thanks for voting and for elaborating with what you want to add. I actually don't know what your single vote was though... if you can let me know, then I can better assess what you are adding to it here. 😀
Yes, "foodie" sounds pretentious but food in important, especially for Italians. I also think "e" would be great. For "d" I don't know what to say. I would suggest keeping some of those to yourself.
Hi Bob, yeah, I hear about not broadcasting the lesser-known places, but I bet the popular cities will always be the main targets for a majority of tourists. Then there are the travelers, in a smaller percentage, who have a "slow travel" philosophy, who will make an effort to go to the lesser-known places. I'm glad to hear you're interested in "e" 😀
My order….c, d, e, a,b
